New Zeitgeist Film: Moving Zeitgeist Forward

I became a fan of filmmaker Peter Joseph several years ago shortly after "Zeitgeist: The Movie" was released in late 2007.  Since then, there as been a sequel, "Zeitgeist: Addendum," and the latest installment of this trilogy has just been released here in early 2011, "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward".  The film is embedded below in its entirety.  The Zeitgeist movies and the movement of the same name that has sprung up around them are interesting examinations of the Social Pathology of modern western civilization.  Consumption and the increasing mindlessness that has accompanied same in the western world, along with genetics, addiction, memory, and the stratified society are all covered here in an enlightening way for anyone who enjoys digging deep below the veneer of western popular culture in the quest to attain perspective on awakening and ascension.  The growing frivolity of our materialistic world and the definitive need for change as the human race moves forward arises in a succinct way within this film, which exposes and transcends the memes of cultural relativism that are fed to us by governments,  corporations and maintained by the mainstream corporate media.  The importance of the environment as an influence in the evolution of genetic traits, such as violence and abuse are examined within the Zeitgeist films.  Having watched all three films, I would say that this one is the best to date.

We are shaped much more by the society around us than many of us think.  The latest installment of this film series delves even deeper into this, into our true, historical Hominid nature and how we are, in an historical and natural sense, not prone to violence as many of the corporate information systems would have us believe.  On the contrary, we are and have been conditioned and programmed.  The development of this type of perspective can be key to those searching for answers in today's world... those of us with a grand view of, "Wait.  This can't be all there is.  Surely the world in which I find myself cannot have much to do with my true nature.  There must be something more to being human, something far more grand than what I have been taught to believe."  When one begins to explore these questions and the seeming contradictions of life in the early 21st century, the emerging sense of hopelessness and frustration for many as the grip of the corporate oligarchy tightens, one can begin to see that we do indeed exist presently within a holographic matrix that has taken the form of the old board game, Monopoly.  Part of our true nature as humans is flexibility.  The controllers of the board have twisted this capacity around through programming with the sole purpose of compartmentalization, isolation, consumption and ultimately despair for many who are caught within the matrix on the lower strata.

Many who are searching for answers today, particularly those who have had awakening experiences of one form or another, would agree that something is fundamentally wrong with the way modern civilization is structured.  The programming itself is so deep that most will just shrug their shoulders and say, "What can I do?  This is just how things are."  Yet, when one is informed about the machinations behind such things as "manufactured scarcity," "disaster Capitalism," "shock, problem, solution," and "planned obsolescence" constructs that are devised and implemented by government and corporate controllers on a daily basis, one begins to hunger for the emergence of a new way of being, and for the dissolution of the matrix in which we currently live.  For those not familiar with the aforementioned terms, I highly recommend reading "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein, or viewing the movie of the same name, by Klein and Alfonso Cuaron (the film is available on YouTube in various places, included an eight-part upload, the first part of which is viewable here).

"Moving Forward" exposes the corporate and governmental myths about human nature that are its current means of exploitation and the basic components of its programming, including the myths that humans are competitive by nature, individualistic and selfish.  Through this examination, the juxtaposition of this programming against the natural path of human evolution is protracted, and the need for a new social paradigm of a resource-based economy is examined.  Such a type of a resource-based cultural life is what many Native American and other indigenous tribes around the world lived by, known in early North America as The Great Law, which in 1720 became a written expression of this way of life as The Great Law of Peace, and was the code by which many of the tribes had lived by for years.   At the heart of The Great Law was the principle that all consumption of resources was to allow the for the survival and provision for the next seven generations.  The arrival of the "civilized society" concepts of North America's early European settlers vanquished such balanced cultures and painted the natives as "savages," which then became a part of the collective western cultural mythology and has influenced modern cultures to this day.  For additional reading on in this area, I would recommend reading "Beyond Economic Growth" by Tatyana Soubbotina and "The Long Emergency" by James Howard Kunstler.

Although not discussed or referenced in the film, additional context for the introduction of the teachings of The WingMakers are illuminated during the latter part of the movie.  Those familiar with James of The WingMakers and the Lyricus Teaching Order will easily be able to spot the various parallels and corollaries to The WingMakers' vision of a balanced future human civilization based on strategic sustenance.  This third Zeitgeist installment also includes the views of artist, architect, visionary and founder of The Venus Project, Jacque Fresco, who had appeared in previous segments.  I personally found Fresco's drawings to be eerily similar to many of my virtual reality constructions several years ago when I first discovered his work.  When I came across both of the aforementioned entities for the first time, and any time I have thought  about or participated in virtual reality since, my thoughts are immediately directed to The WingMakers and The Venus Project, in which lie a familiarity for me in a wider universal sense of deja vu.   My constructions in terms of design, access, travel and the sustainability of of life within the simulators appear as if they have come from the same place.   As I noted in a previous post, many times while creating or "living" within the virtual worlds, I was overcome by a feeling that I had done that work before and was trying to remember something that was an integral part of my energetic essence.

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward

After viewing this installment of the Zeitgeist trilogy and exploring either The WingMakers and/or The Venus Project, I also recommend viewing Hayao Miyazaki's Ocscar-nominated animated film, Howl's Moving Castle, which fundamentally presents the Zeitgeist movement and the historical journey of each human soul in a mythological, childlike way that is easy to understand.  During my Cosmic Initiation period, I was shown this film for the first time.  Its allegorical nature is intriguing on many levels, right down to the concepts of runaway consumption, depicted in that movie as "The Wicked Witch of the Waste."  There is also a device which appears in "Howl's" that serves as a method of inter-dimensional travel.  On its face, it looks very similar to the old electronic game called Simon.

During my initiation period, after viewing "Howl's", I was so drawn to that device that I began to search for something similar to it, as if it represented something ancient in its origins, and without any name for it, I was directed by Source energy to a book called, "Who Are You?: 101 Ways of Seeing Yourself" by Malcolm Goodwin.  I found the device illustrated there, among many other fascinating diagrams and drawings that appear to have both ancient and future connotations about our nature as energetic beings existing in an expansive, magical universe.  If anyone coming across this blog has any further information on such a device in terms of inter-dimensional travel, please write to me.  I still don't understand its context and would welcome more information.  I have long since given the book to a friend and need to secure another copy.

The state of modern civilization today is not what it appears to be.  Question everything, most notably authority and the memes of mainstream media.  If you open yourself up to this type of inquiry in a search to understand your true nature, I am confident that the universe will begin to reveal ancient and now-hidden truths about who you are, as it has begun to do for me.

Namste.

Update: February 10, 2011:  I have since contacted my friend with the book and he has found the illustration of what I called a "device" similar to the Simon game and also used in the film, "Howl's Moving Castle."  The illustration appears in the aforementioned book, "Who Are You? 101 Ways of Seeing Yourself", which deals with ancient symbols and archetypal imagery.  The image in the book is called "Eye of the Womb" and here is what my friend has emailed me regarding what the book says about the image:

It's literally got an eyeball in the center, surrounded by a circle that is actually broken up into 4 quadrants - each of which is further broken into 2 pie pieces. Two of the quadrants are orange/yellow (Girl-Child/Maiden and Wise Woman), another is light/dark blue (Nymph), and the last is light/dark purple (Child-Bearer).

Upon further break-out, they are associated with the following:

Wise Woman - "Life-Reflector"
Girl-Child/Maiden - "Life-Explorer"
Child-Bearer - "Life-Giver"
Nymph - "Life-Relating"

I've still got to do more research on this subject, and will do so when I have more time.  There are many interesting corollaries here.  I would recommend checking out author / blogger Luke Osborne, who had written a post about a month or so before mine about a similar image / color combination on one of his blogs, entitled, "Interesting Mandala Coincidence".  It's intriguing that the image represents what is known as the "rainbow body" or the "rainbow warrior" in some circles.  This will definitely be part of my reading over the next several weeks.  Just like the spiral image and the Eye of Osiris or Eye of Horus that appeared frequently to me during an intense connection to source energy, the Eye of the Womb may have additional context in the coming months if we indeed experience an expanded awareness of the universe.  Luke's blogs can be found here:  The Mandala Forest and Art Transforms the System.

Last night I visited your page and was interested by a lot of what you said. I came back to do some more reading, and I got really excited when I saw what you said about the Simon game. I posted a blog entry last December which included some thoughts on the rainbow body, and a Tibetan Bon Mandala, which has some similarities to the Simon game. I linked the post to your page. Please check it out here:

Luke, since I don't see an email address on your blogs, I'm going to post a response here likely in three parts, since I am limited in the number of characters per comment.

Wow. Both of your posts are quite interesting, and I'll be back to read your blogs further in the future. I'll post links to them in my "Points of Interest" section. I really enjoyed reading what you had to say. I need to retrieve my copy of "Who Are You? 101 Ways of Seeing Yourself," the book that I referenced with regard to the "Simon" or "Bon Mandala" apparatus. That book is packed with ancient symbols and drawings that stirred quite a bit of feeling within me when I read it in January of 2010. It aroused a lot of feelings of familiarity in many ways for me on some long-lost levels of awareness.

What really amazed me was the timing of seeing the Simon image as a device in "Howl's Moving Castle" around that time - my first kundalini-esque experience. As Richard Dreyfus' character in "Close Encounters" would say, "This means something," and I couldn’t get it out of my head for weeks. The protagonist in the film would adjust the device with his hand before opening the inside door of the castle, and depending on the setting, arrive in a different place or dimension upon opening the door.

For a time after my intense connection to Source, I thought that I was shown this connection in order to create a larger than life performance art piece to reflect the ancient symbols, with the hope of presenting it at large festivals like Glastonbury, Reading, etc., and had talked at length with many of my local artist friends about doing just that.

The performance art piece would have included the construction of two large iron merkabah frames on each side of the stage, which would have a person seated inside each merkabah shell in the centers, and the triangles, plated with gold, would spin in opposite directions while a tone similar to the universal "ohm" sound came from the sound system. The merkabah frames would slow and speed up depending upon the music or tones played. A large video screen would take up the rear part of the stage would show many of the symbols in the "Who Are You?" book, among other ancient images.

The piece would open with a drum circle of approximately 24 people and would be very percussion oriented. Quite the endeavor, but at the time I was convinced it could be done. I was told during this time from the energy that presented the information to me that constructing this work would have a lasting effect on the crowds that beheld it, and that it would serve to awaken ancient memories. People would leave saying, “Wtf was that?” but such questions would be moot, as the work would serve to help raise people’s vibrations.

The fact that I was led to the buy the book, "Who Are You?" on Amazon through a random search within hours of watching "Howl's...", without any specific search basis with regard to mandalas, the light body or inter-dimensional travel, and then seeing a similar Simon apparatus in the book, really blew me away. Sadly, I can't remember now what the book said the device was or why it was included there, only that it added to the "this means something" event string at that time.

The friend to whom I gave the book almost immediately thereafter to see if it resonated with him is another semi-local artist, but I haven't seen him in many months because he’s been working on his latest film. I was trying to convince him to help me develop the aforementioned piece of performance art. I'm going to try and get the book back just so that I can get some clarity on the subject.

I have been aware of the rainbow body and some of the mythology that surrounds the Lightworker communities for some time, but hadn't put the two elements together. I had also noticed since being introduced to the Simon-like device, for lack of a better description, that it was similar to the Google and Windows logos and found it interesting that you had made the same connection.

During my time of intense connection to Source energy when the rainbow device was first shown to me, although I didn't get much sleep during that time, I actually expected for many days to wake up and see such an apparatus attached to the inside wall of the front door of my apartment, thinking that I had somehow transited normal levels of consciousness and was going to be able to inter-dimensionally travel in a new way (instead of by astral means or through meditation).

Some authors, including Drunvalo, have talked about the sacred space of the heart actually being a unique "place" somewhere within the many dimensional realities where we can go in spirit form and communicate directly with Source. Some have tied that place into the scripture phrase, "In my Father's house are many mansions." Each of these spaces is unique to the individual, and I have imagined what mine would look like, inhabiting the space within meditation over the past year. I remember thinking while watching "Howl's" that the moving castle was a metaphor for one's own heart space.

Now my interest is piqued once again regarding all of the above. Thank you for sharing the information and your writings.

Luke, on your other blog post regarding art and its relationship to society, these questions really resonated with me:

“In such a world, in the wealthy nations of the West, what role does art play? Is art simply an adornment, a marketing scheme, a fashion statement, a status symbol, a product placement or a cultural justification hanging on the great edifice of war, environmental destruction, and decadence?”

In the beginning of the latest Zeitgeist film, "Moving Foward," there is a quote from German author Ernst Fischer, which I believe was taken from his book, "The Necessity of Art," where he said,

"In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay. And unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must show the world as changeable. And help to change it."

Although I had never articulated anything like that statement, I have often felt precisely the same way about art and its function, especially over the past twenty years or so, where I have observed decay reflected more than ever.

During my time in the woo-woo, such observations became even more relevant, even astounding, as if the universe itself was a wellspring of near constant reflection from such a perspective, pleading with the observer on a certain level to take note of expression that reflects the state of society and in doing so recognize the importance of art itself and its necessity to our survival as a species.

Sevahn,

I've been looking at some of the info you present here on your page, and enjoyed the zeitgeist film. I have had some interesting /powerful occurrences, energetic movements, voices in my head, synchronicities, etc with regard to my own spiritual processes, but nothing as intense or drawn out as yours. I did have a short period of Krsna consciousness showing up when I was meditating on Krsna, and then someone with a Krsna avatar, who I have no clue who he was, randomly IM'd me to make idle chat. I have never had that kind of thing happen, so I think it's interesting you had those random online encounters, and suggests to me the cementing of collective consciousness through the net, and/or the existence of beings/ consciousness working through the net to contact people. I do believe that things are coming to a head, and yet I also have a sense of impatience, weariness of having to live in our corrupted world.

I think the idea of creating a physical piece of art for spiritual awakening sounds good. You've got my mind going on the idea too. I'm not sure how to do what you propose, but regardless I do think context is key.

You might like some of the mandalas on my page, in which some incorporate the hexagram. I also added a contact form if you feel like connecting through email. Also, here's a film you might find inspirational, called Flicker, which is about the artist/occultist Brion Gysin and his piece known as the Dream Machine. http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/flicker/ I think I might do a post on it on my blog as well.

Take care,
-Luke

Luke, thanks again for your comments. My "cosmic initiation" period a little over a year ago was by far the most bizarre experience of my life. It took me months to really write in depth about what happened to me because it had so many layers and lacked context.

I too have had various other types of experiences and encounters, some rather profound, including a fair amount of journey work, but last year's was completely off the charts. I questioned if I was losing my mind through most of it, but the fact that it all had to do with a heart-based connection to something greater kept me grounded.

It still boggles my mind that the experience extended into my virtual world encounters, and did so for several days. There was no way that I could justify how or why that happened, but the depth and breadth of the experience seemed to engulf my whole life, even though I continued to question the entire time.

Thanks for sharing about the Krsna consciousness meditation and the online encounter. Hearing something like that from someone else encourages me greatly. That is one of the reasons that I have increased my presence on this blog.

One thing that I left out of my posts, and I'll share because of your Krsna experience, is that one of the three primary beings that I encountered during that period in the virtual world glowed, had wings and approached me saying he wanted to build temples but was new and had no land. I donated most of my remaining land to him, upon which he built some grand temples. He was in the virtual world occasionally until about 2 months ago and I have not seen him since.

It also encourages me greatly to hear that you are feeling a sense of impatience regarding where we are in time at present. I have used the term, "world-weary" several times recently when speaking with friends and family. It's as if I'm becoming very restless and frustrated just wanting things to move along, if we are indeed to experience new levels of consciousness. The only way that I want to experience life now is the way that I felt during that intense time.

I will check out the Flicker film. I think I've heard about the Dream Machine. It made me think of the Mark Farina song of the same name.

As for the performance art piece, I have been able to see it in my head since last year, and I think I could pull it together with the right people, some of whom I already know, but I am literally living on the edge of society at the moment, one breath away from demise. The irony here on earth never seems to cease.
